Hey hey hey, Smashi Sports Fam! 🌟⚽
From Canelo Álvarez’s Riyadh fight plans to Al Hilal’s reported travel twist and Papu Gómez’s new UAE chapter, there’s plenty happening across regional sport. Canelo has confirmed he still wants to fight in Riyadh on October 31, Al Hilal could reportedly travel by road to Doha for their AFC Champions League Elite match, and Forte Virtus have officially signed Papu Gómez.

Canelo Still Planning Riyadh Fight

What Is It About
Canelo Álvarez is still planning to fight in Riyadh on October 31 despite the recent attacks on Saudi airports. Saudi General Entertainment Authority Chairman Turki Al-Sheikh said Canelo personally contacted him to confirm that he remains committed to the fight.

Why It Matters
Canelo is scheduled to face undefeated Christian Mbilli for the WBC super-middleweight title. Mbilli comes in with a 29-0 record, including 24 knockouts, while this would be Canelo’s first fight since his September 2025 defeat to Terence Crawford.

What’s Next
The update comes after attacks on Riyadh’s King Khalid International Airport caused casualties and major flight disruptions. For now, the fight is still on, with Riyadh Season moving ahead with one of its biggest fight nights.

Al Hilal Reportedly Consider Road Trip To Doha

What Is It About
Al Hilal are reportedly preparing for an unusual trip before their AFC Champions League Elite match against Al Sadd. According to Saudi sports presenter Waleed Al-Farraj, the team could travel by road from Riyadh to Doha instead of flying to Qatar.

Why It Matters
That would be around a 650-kilometre journey before a major continental match. Al Hilal are scheduled to face Al Sadd on Tuesday, October 13, at Jassim Bin Hamad Stadium in Doha, but the club have not officially confirmed the road trip or the reason behind it.

What’s Next
Saudi football has already seen some schedule disruption, with Abha’s match against Al Faisaly postponed due to circumstances beyond the clubs’ control. For now, this remains a reported travel plan, not an official Al Hilal confirmation.

Papu Gómez Officially Joins Forte Virtus

What Is It About
World Cup winner Papu Gómez has officially started a new chapter in the UAE. Forte Virtus have announced the signing of the Argentine midfielder after his move from Italian side Padova.

Why It Matters
Padova also confirmed the transfer, saying Gómez has joined Forte Virtus FC in the UAE First Division League. That means the 2022 World Cup winner is not joining one of the UAE Pro League giants, but a club playing in the country’s second tier.

What’s Next
Gómez is best known for his years at Atalanta, before spells with Sevilla, Monza and Padova. At 38, he now joins a club with big ambitions, with Forte Virtus presenting the signing as a major step for their project.
