Ronaldo Return Left Open, AFC Nations League Debate Grows And Zamalek Ordered To Pay Maali
Hey hey hey, Smashi Sports Fam! đâ˝
From Cristiano Ronaldoâs possible Portugal return to a major AFC qualification proposal and Zamalekâs latest FIFA case, thereâs plenty happening across regional sport. Ronaldo can return for Portugalâs next international break if he chooses to, the AFC is reportedly planning a Nations League system that could reshape Asian qualification, and Zamalek have been ordered to pay around $611,000 to Abdelhamid Maali.
Ronaldo Return To Portugal Left In His Hands

What Is It About
Cristiano Ronaldoâs return to Portugal is back on the table, but the final decision is his. Jorge Jesus says the Al Nassr captain can return for the next international break if he wants to, describing their recent fallout as a misunderstanding with no resentment.
Why It Matters
Jesus has left the door open, but he is not backing down on one point. When asked about apologising, he said: âI donât apologise to anyone. Apologise for what? To whom?â Portuguese Federation president Pedro Proença also said Ronaldo remains part of the teamâs plans.
Whatâs Next
Portugal have continued without Ronaldo for now, beating Norway 2-1 and reaching the Nations League quarter-finals. Their next international window includes Denmark on November 14 and Wales on November 17, with Ronaldoâs return still depending on his decision.
AFC Nations League Could Reshape Asian Qualification

What Is It About
The AFC is reportedly planning a major change to Asian football from 2030, with a new AFC Nations League that could reshape World Cup and Asian Cup qualification. The AFC is the Asian Football Confederation, the governing body for football across Asia.
Why It Matters
According to reports, the plan would divide Asian national teams into three tiers based on FIFA rankings. Tier 1 would reportedly include 18 teams, with the strongest World Cup qualification route coming through that top division, creating more competitive matches between teams at a similar level.
Whatâs Next
The concern is that lower-ranked nations could face a much harder route if World Cup qualification is heavily linked to Tier 1. The reported Asian Cup format would also connect qualification to the Nations League, with promotion and relegation allowing teams to move between tiers over time.
Zamalek Ordered To Pay Abdelhamid Maali

What Is It About
Zamalek have been ordered by FIFA to pay around $611,000 to former Moroccan player Abdelhamid Maali. The case goes back to a contract dispute between the player and the club, with Maali seeking compensation after leaving Zamalek.
Why It Matters
According to Egyptian reports, FIFA ordered Zamalek to pay $66,000 in overdue payments, plus around $545,000 as compensation for contract termination. One unusual part of the case was Zamalekâs request for the playerâs documents to be submitted in English instead of French.
Whatâs Next
FIFA rejected that request, and Zamalek reportedly did not submit their defence before the legal deadline. The club have now taken the case to the Court of Arbitration for Sport, trying to suspend, overturn or reduce the penalty.
