Saudi FA Back Donis, Summerville Receives AFC Ban And Al Fateh Appoint Sellami

Hey hey hey, Smashi Sports Fam! 🌟⚽
From Saudi Arabia’s coaching clarification to Al Hilal’s AFC suspension blow and Al Fateh’s new appointment, there’s plenty happening across regional sport. The Saudi Football Federation has confirmed Georgios Donis will remain head coach, Crysencio Summerville has been handed a three-match AFC ban, and Al Fateh have appointed Jamal Sellami until the end of the season.

Saudi FA Confirms Donis Will Stay

What Is It About
The Saudi Football Federation has officially confirmed that Georgios Donis will remain head coach of the national team, ending speculation over his immediate future. The clarification follows reports from Al Riyadiya claiming that sporting director Matt Crocker had reached an agreement with former Portugal coach Roberto Martínez before Khaleeji 27 began.

Why It Matters
The federation said in its October 8 statement that Donis would continue in his position and that no decision had been made to change the coaching staff. The timing is important because the statement comes just days after Donis led Saudi Arabia to their first Gulf Cup title in 22 years.

What’s Next
For now, Donis remains in charge as Saudi Arabia move forward from their Khaleeji 27 title win. The confirmation puts the Martínez reports to the side, at least for the immediate future.

Summerville Handed Three-Match AFC Ban

What Is It About
Al Hilal’s Crysencio Summerville has been handed a three-match suspension and a $2,000 fine by the AFC after his red card for violent conduct against Al Gharafa on September 15. The decision comes nearly a month after his heated clash in the AFC Champions League Elite.

Why It Matters
The confrontation also saw Al Gharafa midfielder Ismaël Bennacer sent off, with both players receiving the same punishment. Summerville’s ban is a significant blow for Al Hilal in continental competition, but it does not affect his Saudi Pro League availability.

What’s Next
Summerville will miss Al Hilal’s next three AFC fixtures against Al Sadd on October 13, Al Shamal on October 27 and UAE champions Shabab Al Ahli on November 3.

Al Fateh Appoint Jamal Sellami

What Is It About
Al Fateh have appointed Moroccan coach Jamal Sellami until the end of the season after parting ways with Saudi coach Khaled Al-Atwi by mutual agreement. According to Thmanyah, Al-Atwi lasted just two months and 17 days, overseeing eight matches without a victory.

Why It Matters
Sellami arrives with major regional momentum after making history by guiding Jordan to their first-ever FIFA World Cup qualification. Al Fateh now hope that experience can help revive their difficult Saudi Pro League campaign.

What’s Next
Sellami’s first major test comes against Al Ahli, as Al Fateh look for an immediate reaction under their new head coach.
